Camp 42’s COVID-19 At-Camp Prevention Strategies are based on the guidance for summer camps issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In 2025, the CDC removed the COVID-19 vaccination from its recommended vaccination schedule for children and adolescents, leaving the decision to the parent and healthcare provider. This has affected the availability and cost of the vaccine, making it inaccessible to some families. Therefore, Camp 42 is no longer requiring COVID-19 vaccine and boosters for camp attendance this year. However, we strongly encourage families to get their campers boosted if the vaccine is available and accessible to them.
NEW FOR 2025: As in 2025, we require campers to be tested for COVID upon arrival. However, this year the cost of the tests is included in the registration fee, so parents do not need to purchase and bring their own tests.
Definition of Vaccination Status
The CDC has used a three-tiered COVID-19 vaccination status.
- Up to date (with all eligible boosters)
- Fully vaccinated (having completed the primary series)
- Not vaccinated
Testing
Before camp – Parent’s responsibility
- If the participant is showing symptoms, please test as close to the start of camp as possible.
- If the participant has been exposed to another person who has tested positive for COVID-19 within between 6 and 10 days of the start of camp, even if they have no symptoms, please test as close to the start of camp as possible.
At camp
Camp 42 will administer a COVID-19 test to each camper upon arrival. This test will be provided by camp.
Camp 42 will administer a COVID-19 test to any campers or staff who
- Is showing symptoms of COVID-19.
- Was exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 between 1 and 5 days before the start of camp.
Positive Test Results at Camp
Unfortunately, we do not have the resources during the week of camp to provide space or supervision for participants who are positive for COVID-19.
If someone tests positive for COVID-19 upon arrival at camp, we will not be able to accept that camper for the week of camp. If you suspect your camper may test positive, please test as close to the start of camp as possible before leaving to avoid being turned away at camp.
If someone tests positive during the week of camp, the participant will be removed from camp activities. We will contact the parents to pick their camper up from camp as soon as possible. We recognize that many of our campers travel hours to attend Camp 42 and that, given the time of day parents are contacted, it may be the next day before they arrive. In this case, these campers will be moved to a separate cabin until parents can arrive.
Masking
Camp 42 will NOT require participants to wear masks.
Handwashing
Camp will monitor and reinforce hand-washing, using hand sanitizer when hand washing is not an option.
Cleaning and disinfecting
Eating surfaces are cleaned and sanitized at every meal.
